On Saturday, August 29th the Solomon Gorillas HS Volleyball team traveled to Peabody for the Peabody Invitational. The team competed in pool play against Peabody, Burrton, and Chase County. The Gorillas finished pool play with a 2-1 record and advanced to tournament play as the 2 seed. In pool play they beat Burrton & Peabody in 2 sets and lost to Chase County in 2 sets. The Gorillas advanced to the championship with a 2 set win against Burrton. The championship match was a rematch of the pool play top-seed match. The Gorillas were victorious in 3 sets against Chase County and took home the championship plaque for their efforts.
When Coach Anderson was asked how she felt the team played over the weekend she said, “The girls played really well, we had a few struggles on the day but they overcame it & ended up playing some really awesome volleyball.” We also asked her what the biggest thing she could take away from the weekend that will help the team for the remainder of the year and her response was, “The fact that we struggled & instead of giving in to the struggle, we had a talk & persevered through it & really came together as a team. I think this really set the tone for the season, because every team is going to struggle, but it is how you deal with that struggle that makes you a better team & will help us throughout the season.”
The Gorillas will head off to the Sacred Heart Invitational for their next competition on Tuesday, September 1st. The games will be available via live stream on the Solomon High School Sports Network YouTube channel.
