On Saturday, August 28th the Solomon Gorillas HS Volleyball team traveled to Peabody for the Peabody Invitational. The team competed in pool play against Wichita-West, Burrton, and Chase County. The Gorillas finished pool play with a 3-0 record and advanced to tournament play as the 2 seed. In pool play they beat Chase County in 2 sets (32-30, 25-22), Wichita-West in 2 sets (25-13, 25-11), and Burrton in 3 sets (22-25, 25-20, 25-22). In bracket play, the Gorillas lost their first match against Hartford (22-25, 12-25). The Gorillas advanced to the 3rd place match and beat Classical School of Wichita in 2 sets (25-18, 25-16).
When Coach Desormiers was asked about her preseason practices and what she is most looking forward to for the rest of the season she said, “I’m just excited to see what this group can accomplish. They are all really talented volleyball players. They make practices fun with their energy and enthusiasm and genuine love of the game.” We also asked her what her team’s strong suit or best area at the Peabody tournament was and her response was, “I walked away amazed at how well we served and how spot on our service-receive was. Serve receive is typically something that takes time to develop, so I was really proud of how well our back row worked together on that. It allowed us to have an aggressive offense.”
The Gorillas will be at home to take on Sacred Heart for their next competition on Tuesday, August 31st. The games will be available via live stream on the Solomon High School Sports Network YouTube channel.
