On Saturday, September 11th, the Solomon Gorillas HS Volleyball team played at home for the Solomon Invitational. The team competed in pool play against Flint Hills Christian, Peabody, and Herington.  The Gorillas finished pool play with a 2-1 record. In pool play they beat Flint Hills Christian in 2 sets (25-17, 25-22), beat Peabody in 2 sets (25-15, 25-14), and lost to Herington in 2 sets (8-25, 9-25). The Gorillas advanced to the semis of bracket play and lost in 2 sets against Ell-Saline (14-25, 8-25). In the 3rd place match they lost in 3 sets against Elyria Christian (9-25, 25-17, 16-25).

When Coach Desormiers was asked about how the team played and what are some things you are going to work on in the future to improve, she said, “We just need to work on how to fight through the difficult times. When we're losing, we get down on ourselves and lose our confidence. We have to learn to believe we can do it and just work harder to fight back.” We also asked her who she thought stood out the most, she said, “There's not one person that worked the hardest or played the best. Overall, when we played well we were doing that as a team. When we weren't playing well, we were doing that as a team as well. I will say though, I was impressed with my freshman Maya Newcomer who got a lot of bigtime blocks for us throughout the day.”

The Gorillas will be at home to take on Herington & Rural Vista for their next competition on Tuesday, September 14th. The games will be available via live stream on the Solomon High School Sports Network YouTube channel.
